This is a very colorful Compass quilt featuring red, blue and yellow and is 71 inches by 72 inches. Compass quilts, also called Mariners Compass quilts, feature a design based upon, you guessed it, the mariners compass. Most have a star like pattern centered around a circle. This particular quilt has another star shape at the center of the compass.
This quilt was made in 1875 and featured in Quilt magazine as well. As you can also see, the maker utilized two shades of blue in the quilt. It has 4 to 5 stitches per inch and is 100% cotton.
This quilt sold for just under $1195. It being feature in the magazine as well as at the Houston Quilt Market may have helped increase demand.
